The Beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel welcomed WestJet’s inaugural flight from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) on Dec. 22, 2012. The new service from Ottawa is an integrated partnership between The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel and WestJet.
The new service will operate until April 27, 2013, once a week every Saturday departing (YOW) at 8:45 a.m. and arriving into (RSW) at 12:22 p.m.
Representatives from the The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel Canadian office were in Ottawa at (YOW) International Airport to greet passengers and see off the flight with breakfast, prizes, giveaways, and interactive games.
Flight 1262 touched down at RSW to a traditional water arch salute welcome, followed by a ceremony attended by the Lee Co Port Authority, together with members of the Lee County Visitors & Convention Bureau.
“We are pleased to welcome another direct international flight to our destination,” said Tamara Pigott, VCB executive director. “We are happy to continue to experience growth in Canadian visitation to The Beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel.”
