Delta Waterloo opens in Canada’s technology triangle

Hotel delivers newest landmark to serve Waterloo Region’s thriving business, research and technology communities

Delta Hotels and Resorts® today announced the official opening of the new Delta Waterloo hotel in Waterloo, Ontario. Located in Ontario’s fourth largest urban area and a major centre for innovation, the hotel is the first four-star full-service hotel in UpTown Waterloo to serve the region’s growing business, research and technology communities.

As part of the 14-acre Barrelyards community, the hotel brings a blend of modern design, elevated amenities and local flavours for today’s traveller amid UpTown Waterloo’s historic landmarks.

Known for its exceptional architecture and world class think tanks, Waterloo is home to several internationally recognized institutions, including the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) Campus. “With its growing community of celebrated institutions and environment of innovation, Waterloo is the perfect location for Delta’s newest hotel,” says Ken Greene, President and CEO of Delta Hotels and Resorts. “We expect Delta Waterloo to be the destination for business and leisure visitors who are drawn to the region’s many business and cultural attractions.”

The hotel’s location in the heart of UpTown Waterloo also makes it easy for visitors to explore the region’s many attractions by foot including the historical train station, arts and culture attractions, boutique shopping, restaurants, cafes and entertainment venues.

“We’re excited to be bringing Delta’s elevated four-star hotel experience to the vibrant new Barrelyards development,” says Karen Crich, Principal at Auburn Developments.  The brand new contemporary hotel combined with Delta’s first in class customer service will be a fabulous addition to Uptown Waterloo.”

Located near the intersection of Erb and Caroline Streets, Delta Waterloo’s design is reflective of the area’s renowned architectural scene. Clean lines, open spaces and modern finishes define the new Delta Waterloo from top to bottom. The hotel has 194 ModeRoom™ guest rooms and suites, which are modern, adaptable and full of technology features. The hotel also offers a leading edge fitness facility with a retreat-style pool and sauna, a business centre and approximately 6,500 square feet of meeting and conference space including a 2,800 square foot ballroom.

Proof Kitchen + Lounge, located on the ground floor of the hotel, offers handcrafted, contemporary cuisine pairing local ingredients with global flavours. Under the direction of Executive Chef Tim Dunnill, the restaurant’s menu is inspired by the tastes of Waterloo Region’s local producers such as Paradise Farms, Pine River Cheese, Martin’s Family Fruit Farm and Woolwich Dairy. In addition to the 138-seat main dining room, the restaurant also has two separate private dining rooms, a bar lounge, and a large 100-seat outdoor patio dining space.

With 42 hotels and resorts located in every province in Canada, Delta is the largest Canadian owned hotel company, with a coast to coast presence. Current plans for new openings include Delta Thunder Bay in Ontario in 2015, Delta Prince George in B.C. in 2016, Delta Calgary International Airport in Alberta in 2016 and Delta Burlington in Ontario in 2018.
