Thanks to the leadership of Tourisme Montréal, the world will once again lay eyes on Montréal when the city welcomes the 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The approval of the bid, conditional upon a site visit in November, was made recently from Uzbekistan, where the International Federation of Gymnastics was meeting. Tourisme Montréal is proud to have emerged on top by mobilizing its partners and submitting a high quality bid book that wowed the Federation.
All this is excellent news and validates Tourisme Montréal’s expertise in attracting large-scale events. Better still, hosting this renowned competition will add to Montréal’s influence on the international stage and its positioning as a major event city.
“Bringing the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships to Montréal is a solid acknowledgement of Québec’s expertise in hosting world-class athletic events. Montréal is a beacon of excellence when it comes to organizing large-scale international events. We are extremely proud of our reputation, and we are constantly striving to become the destination for large competitions,” said Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.
The 375th: a unique window
The competition, which will take place at Montréal’s Olympic Stadium from September 25 to October 9, 2017, will welcome more than 500 athletes and 750 coaches, not to mention media personnel and visitors from over 80 countries. It will happen while Montréal is in the midst of its 375th anniversary festivities, an emotionally charged occasion celebrating the uniqueness and diversity of the city.
