Sheraton Centre Toronto appoints Michael Farquharson as Hotel Manager

Michael Farquharson, Hotel Manager, Sheraton Centre TorontoDavid Connor, Area Managing Director, Eastern Canada, Starwood Hotels & Resorts and General Manager of Sheraton Centre Toronto is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Farquharson as Hotel Manager. This marks his return to Toronto and Sheraton Centre Toronto after a number of senior hotel leadership positions in North America with Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

Farquharson joined Starwood in 2002 and has held a variety of leadership positions with the company in Operations. He began his career with Starwood at Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Pearson International Airport as Front Office Manager in 2002. In 2004, he transitioned to Sheraton Centre Toronto, Starwood’s Canadian flagship hotel as Director of Front Office. He transitioned to the Westin brand where he held the position of Director or Rooms for The Westin Waltham Boston and The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver. In his most recent role, he served as Director of Operations at W Atlanta Buckhead.

“I am so happy to be returning to the team at this landmark hotel in the city of Toronto,” said Farquharson. “This is an exciting time as we are close to completing the extensive renovation of the hotel’s guest rooms and meeting space. My focus will be on providing exceptional guest service to our guests and helping to make memorable experiences while visiting the city.”

Farquharson holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Post Graduate Diploma in Hospitality Management from the University of West Indies. He has a passion for teaching others, spending time as an instructor at Centennial College and working with Starwood’s Learning & Development team.

Sheraton Centre is in the last stages of a comprehensive renovation of the entire hotel. The renovation will result in a floor-to-ceiling transformation of the hotel’s 1,371 guest rooms and suites. The new look guest rooms includes rich colors, graphic patterns, clean lines and a new energy efficient HVAC system. In October, the hotel debuted the completed renovation of the hotel’s meeting space including the 20,212-square-foot Grand Ballroom.
