MTCC Will Host 19 Conventions Next Year

Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) is set to host more citywide conventions in 2023 than in most pre-pandemic years. MTCC’s strong booking calendar in 2023 signals the potential for a positive recovery for the business events industry in Ontario.

The success of the meetings and events industry is vital for economic recovery. The 19 citywide conventions that are set to take place at the MTCC in 2023 will generate an estimated $219 million in direct spending economic impact for the regional economy and will provide key support for local restaurants, hotels, attractions, tourism operators and more. In a typical year, the MTCC generates approximately half a billion in economic impact for the region and sustains over 5,900 hospitality jobs.

Together, the 2023 citywide conventions are set to gather approximately 98,000 experts and leaders from a variety of fields, including anthropology, financial telecommunications, and a variety of topics in health sciences. The transfer of knowledge from experts attending citywide conventions will leave an important legacy of ideas, research and innovation in Toronto.

Nine of the citywides are from the U.S, and six are from international associations, while four are from Canada. Notably, six US-based organizations are set to bring a citywide convention to Canada for the first time in 2023.

“Our industry, our team, and our partners have worked tirelessly over the past two years to recover and move forward successfully,” said Lorenz Hassenstein, president and CEO at the MTCC. ”We are very pleased to report that our 2023 booking calendar signals the potential for a strong recovery and bright future for the business events industry and our facility.”
