The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre Builds Connections

For 50 years, the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (CTCC) has hosted events, both big and small, where people can gather and create meaningful connections with each other and the surrounding city.

The CTCC offers an impressive 122,000 square feet of dedicated convention space – made up of 47,000 square feet of exhibit space, five pre-function areas and 36 meeting rooms.

But the most successful urban convention centres are much more than just meeting spaces. When it comes to destination connectivity, the CTCC can’t be beat.

Downtown Calgary and the promise of possibilities.

Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, the CTCC is an essential part of the fabric of the city’s diverse and cultural richness. The convention centre’s connectivity to Calgary is an integral part of its appeal, offering a walkable environment and convenient proximity to world class amenities and entertainment.

Opened in November 1974, the centre was the first purpose-built convention-centre in Canada with an attached hotel and museum.

Today, the centre connects directly to three premier hotels totaling more than 1,100 rooms by using the city’s Plus 15 system: Hyatt Regency Calgary, Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel and the Fairmont Palliser.

The unique Plus 15 walkway is a series of above-ground, enclosed and connected walkways in the downtown core. At 16 kilometres long, it is the world’s most extensive pedestrian skywalk network with 86 bridges, linking dozens of buildings in downtown Calgary, including the CTCC.

For those wanting to experience some art and culture, the CTCC is connected to the Glenbow Museum, Western Canada’s largest museum of art and history. Currently undergoing a significant renovation, the 312,000-square-foot museum will be transformed and modernized into a world class facility. Set to open in 2026, it will be free to all visitors to enjoy.

The CTCC’s Love Your Lanyard program offers delegates the chance to explore Calgary’s dining options downtown with exclusive deals from partner restaurants. Pubs, bistros, and wine bars line historic Stephen Avenue, the pedestrian walkway in the heart of Calgary’s convention district. Internationally recognized restaurants that are only steps away include Major Tom, Charcut, Teatro and Sky360.

For visitors, the ability to walk to their hotel and refresh after a long day at a conference, grab a quick bite at a local restaurant or shop for a gift nearby creates a richer experience while also helping the local economy.

As a community leader, the CTCC recognizes that their impact reaches beyond the events happening within its four walls. It acts as a catalyst for business, tourism and investment for multiple economic sectors.

“A business traveler has four times the economic impact of a leisure traveler, so when large conferences and events come to the CTCC, they activate the entire neighborhood, from hotels to restaurants to shops and attractions,” says Kurby Court, President and CEO.

The CTCC is dedicated to finding ways to support not only the community, but the organization as a whole. The convention centre maintains a loyal commitment to all persons of all abilities.

Accessibility is especially important for community connection. The centre has collaborated with local accessibility advocates Pedesting to ensure delegates and guests of all abilities are welcomed with a positive and accessible experience at the centre.

“We have a collective responsibility as a community hub to collaborate with city, civic, and community partners, as well as local businesses, to help support and enhance our local economy and sense of community,” says Court.
