Always Learning From Every Event

After more than 30 years in the event industry, I’m still amazed by how much there is to learn — especially for those just starting out. We recently wrapped a large-scale outdoor event that required two full days of setup and two days of execution. As always, there were curveballs, but more importantly, there were moments of growth.

One of my favourite sayings is, “You don’t know what you don’t know until you know it.” With that in mind, I asked our junior team members and interns to reflect on what they learned throughout the planning process. Their takeaways are insightful reminders for any corporate meeting planner — whether you’re new to the industry or a seasoned pro.

  1. Teamwork Is Dreamwork

A successful event is never the work of one, it’s the synergy of many. Our ability to rely on each other built trust and created a cohesive team dynamic.

“True teamwork builds confidence and connection—we had each other’s backs from start to finish.”
— Ines Belkhodja, festival marketing coordinator

  1. Promote Your Promotions

Social media isn’t just about pushing content—it’s about pulling in engagement. Our most successful contests involved multiple partners who were just as invested in visibility as we were.

“Posting is just step one. Real promotion means collaboration, timing, and engagement that actually converts.”
 — Leonie Gorse, social media coordinator

  1. It’s All in the Details

Organization is key—but being organized yourself isn’t enough. If your collaborators don’t show up or aren’t prepared, it reflects on your entire planning strategy.

“Details don’t just live in your spreadsheet. They live in people, and people need to follow through.” — Ruby Aree, vendor coordinator

  1. Consistency & Reporting Are Essential

From budget tracking to task delegation, consistency and documentation help build repeatable success. Every event is a chance to improve, but only if you measure what matters.

“If you’re not tracking it, you can’t grow from it. Make reporting part of your planning DNA.” — Kay Ngai, finance

  1. Passion Fuels Performance

Even the best-run events come with stress. But laughter, celebration, and taking joy in your work? That’s what elevates an event, and a team.

I say: “We always find time to laugh, dance, and celebrate the journey. That’s when the magic happens.”

Every event teaches us something new. Whether it’s about communication, promotion, or perspective, the learning never stops, and that’s exactly what keeps this industry inspiring.
