For Tim Oldfield, event management is about making a difference: creating memorable moments, inspiring connections and helping people achieve their goals.
“I find real satisfaction in seeing an event come together and knowing it made a lasting impact. Building strong relationships with clients, guests and my team is central to my approach,” says Oldfield, who joined Niagara Falls Convention Centre (NFCC) as president and general manager this past April.
Oldfield says he was drawn to the NFCC by its reputation as a globally recognized, iconic destination and its potential for growth in the business events sector.
“I’m truly privileged to assume the role of president here at the Convention Centre. Niagara Falls offers an exceptional array of attractions for both business and leisure tourism, and I see tremendous untapped potential for continued development. My goal is to elevate NFCC as a hub for creativity, connection and industry leadership, unlocking new opportunities for our clients, partners and our local community,” says Oldfield, who has more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry.
The Convention Centre offers 200,000 sq. ft. of flexible, pillar-free space, with natural light in every meeting room. Whether it’s a multi-day conference, a product launch, a gala dinner, or a vendor showcase, the centre’s layout is easily adaptable to suit the function.
“For planners looking to host presentations, performances, or plenary sessions, we’ve recently upgraded our theatre with new telescopic seating. This flexible, retractable seating system allows for quick transitions between seated and open-floor configurations, perfect for events that require both formal and informal setups. It’s a smart solution that adds versatility and comfort for large group gatherings,” says Oldfield.
Other improvements include a new sustainable menu featuring responsibly and locally sourced options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, each labeled with carbon emissions ratings so planners can make informed, eco-conscious choices. NFCC also launched a redesigned website earlier this year, making it easier for planners to access floor plans, service details, and booking information.
“What excites me most is the chance to bring people together and creatively turn ideas into reality. We have a deep belief at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre that this is where inspiration flows and while every event is different, I thrive on the variety and fast pace,” he says.

What trends do you see for events and meetings?
Several key trends are shaping our future with personalization at the forefront. Attendees now expect tailored experiences, curated agendas and seamless digital tools that foster genuine human connection. We also know attendees crave connection to the local environment and a sense of purpose. Technology, especially artificial intelligence, is transforming event planning through smart matchmaking, personalized content and real-time analytics.
Sustainability is now an expectation, not just a trend. Venues and organizers are prioritizing green practices, waste reduction, and energy efficiency, responding to demand for responsible choices.
What do you think attracts groups and events to Niagara Falls?
Niagara Falls is more than a bucket-list destination, it’s a strategic choice for planners looking to blend business with leisure. With the rise of “bleisure” travel, delegates are increasingly extending their stays to enjoy everything the region has to offer, from award-winning wineries and fine dining to live entertainment and, of course, the iconic Falls.
Plus, with over 4,000 branded hotel rooms within walking distance, we work closely with our accommodation partners to offer unprecedented convention packages that streamline planning and enhance the overall delegate experience. Combined with our strong local partnerships, we help planners craft seamless, memorable events that are uniquely Niagara. It’s this combination of convenience, flexibility, and destination appeal that keeps groups coming back.
What is ahead for events at NFCC?
Looking ahead, 2026 is already shaping up to be a busy year. We’re seeing strong interest from both returning clients and new organizations looking to leverage our location, layout, and hospitality partnerships. With a robust pipeline of corporate and association events, we’re excited to continue building on this momentum and welcoming even more planners to experience what makes Niagara Falls such a compelling destination for business events.
